    Hiring a contractor

I saw the video about 10 things you never want to hear from a contractor. I hear and read all the time how contractors are ripping people off. So far almost every case I have heard has been against single moms are elderly women who live alone. How can a contractor do such? What if someone ripped off their family/friend? We must be careful at all times. If you or someone you know has been a victim it needs to be reported to the BBB, www.ripoffreport.com, and may be a good idea to file a police report to get it on record officially incae there are other victims. I think you could ask every woman in the Be Jane community about a bad experience with a contractor and get a bad story. I'm sorry to say that there are people out there that have no problem taking from others. The best thing I've ever found was to do a great deal of research on the project at hand before they come over so you know more of what you're talking about and get at least 3 different quotes. (Even though I say that, don't think I always wonder if I can get away with just one or two but in the end I'm glad I stuck it out to see which one I want to work with as well as the best price.)

Some contractors will take advantage of anyone who doesn't seem to know what to ask - whether they are male or female. Avoid getting ripped off by asking for referrals from your friends or neighbors. ALWAYS ask for your prospective contractors' license numbers and check them out with the Contractors State License Board for your state.
