Skilsaw

I bought a circular saw to saw up some old 2x4's and some old plywood - but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use it! I can turn it on, but after that I'm lost. The blade gets stuck and stops rotating, etc.

You need to line your saw up where you want to cut, but have your blade in motion before engaging it with the wood. If it jams while in the middle of cutting then ease back a little bit and start your blade again and then proceed. Now if you are cutting plywood and it is a large peice, if you do not have it level it will bind your blade up.The peice that is being cut off can not just hang it will have to be held up so that it does not bind the blade. Sometimes old wood will be a little more difficult to cut anyway. Can I ask why you are cutting this wood. A skill saw is a dangerous peice of equipment if you do not know what you are doing. If you are a beginner, I would suggest always having a partner in case of any accidents as well as to help you with your cuts. However, if you are just cutting this wood up to discard, I would think again. Do you know how many people would love to have old wood for projects. So many primitive items, and craft projects are made with old barn wood, or any old wood. You cannot mimic that look. You might consider selling or giving it away "as is." Good luck. I hope this helped.

I'm afraid of circular saw, so I bought a jigsaw and japanese hand saw. Between the two of them, I can do just about anything, albeit slower, which I don't mind at all. I think every woman should have a Japanese saw. They are easy to use, unlike like a regular saw. I bought one at Lee Valley.com for around $20.00. I even use it to saw off brances and such.
