GLUED CARPET!!!!

I have a HUGE problem....I want to put down Laminate Flooring such as "Pergo", or new carpeting in the house I live in. The only problem is- the idiot who installed the carpeting that's down now used INDUSTRIAL glue to put it down instead of using padding and Tack-stripping! It's supposed to be good for 10 years! I can't live with this stuff for 10 years!! Any suggestions on how to get it up?

This problem’s a doozy and alas all too common. Try using an extremely strong glue dissolver, then follow that with a steel scraper and steel brush to remove all the glue gunk in between the floorboards. Another trick: boil water and throw it on the floor, allowing the glue to dissolve for about 10 minutes. Then take heavy-duty hand blade scrapers and get to work. You’ll need a lot of elbow grease with this task, so enjoy the workout!

I would use a home hair dryer(do not use a heat gun) to get the carpet up. It will soften the glue and the carpet will come up. Then I would let the glue dry for afew days. Then I would put the laminate padding over the floor. Then I would install the laminate on top. Who will know the glue is under there? This sounds like a much easier idea. Marlene

The issue here is strength in numbers. If the carpet attachment is too strong, Try cut 3 inch or less strips to pull up. They has to be a reason for the previous owner's decision to use the glue down method. Concerns of flooding and or watering damage is the primary.
