How do you paint a vinyl kitchen floor?

I have a 21 year old ugly vinyl kitchen floor that is still in great shape. Can I paint it? Will the paint last? Has anyone done this and used it for a few years? Any design ideas? Thanks!

I don't advise it...

I am sure you can paint the vinyl floor, but I wouldn't recommend it. Even with a primer the paint won't last and it will quickly wear in the traffic areas. If you want to change it, you may have to remove it.

I agree that painting a vinyl floor is not worth the effort. There are ways to paint wood floors, which can work with floors that are old and have been refinished too many times. http://www.oldhouseweb.com/stories/Detailed/12172.shtml
