Paper masking tape Fidget1479 writes: Thu, 08/14/2008 - 10:37am
You'll need 1/8" paper masking tape to make the flames like the picture. You may have to get it at an automotive paint store or a specialty paint store. It's just like regular painters' tape or masking tape, but it's very thin and can be curved without causing creases.
Good luck with the paining, it will be amazing!

I'm going to try to get this done this weekend. I've got the stretchy tape and I found 1/2" tape at the automotive paint store. I looked at the 1/8" but I think it would just be too thin to be really useful.
We'll see how it goes!
I did it!!! lliillaa writes: Sun, 08/17/2008 - 7:59pm
It took all weekend, but I finished the paint job in his room. I even took time to do all of the shopping, but it will be a couple of days before I can get all of the furniture put together. In the mean time I thought I'd post pictures of the process.
After researching this, I realized there were two ways to do flames... free hand painting, or masking. I decided that I was better at masking than freehand so here is my masking technique.
The final picture shows the stripe wall as well. I did not go into explaining that since it is just standard stripes, layered over each other.
