retaining wall

my yard slopes off about 3 feet toward the fence on all sides (except where the house is). Has anyone done a retaining wall below a fence? Any experience with pavestones or products like it? Is this do it yourself or best left to the pros. I got a quote for a wood retaining wall and fill in dirt using existing fence for $4000. Seems a bit steep but included drains.

unless you're capable of building it yourself I'd entertain the bid. I'd also get at least 3 other bids from competiters and check their license at your state CCB. Luck, Gerald

I'm assuming you want this to prevent run off and not for decoration? If so, yes, get more estimates. Try landscaping companies. Many do this all the time. Make sure the estimate is specific about size, shape (they should provide a drawing), materials, etc. Also ask your town about a permit.
