Hi Michelle, Gross as in dirty or gross as in not decorated well? I found an easy way to clean the inside of cabinets is to take everything out and use a Swiffer-type floor cleaner to scrub them. Its got a nice long handle, a scrubby strip on the end and is very manuverable. And when the mop pad get dirty you throw it out and get a new one. If your cabinets are just poorly decorated I recommend contact paper. It comes in a million different patters and colors and is so easy to put on. Best of luck, D

Thanks for responding D- "Gross" as in old, showing wear(installed in 1968). The interiors appear to have had some type of lacquer or other type of clear finish put on them and some areas have chipped off leaving bare wood exposed. I am not a fan of contact paper because in no time at all the edges peel up and looks nasty. I've thought about painting but I don't know. Need more info.

I would suggest painting, with a paint that has some sheen to it. This way you can wipe it down without removing the paint when you want to clean. We just did this in our kitchen cabinets and it's amazing how nice they look now. No more worrying about company seeing inside when we entertain. :)
