leaking air gap

I have recently redone my kitchen and added a dishwasher. I had the line run directly to the drain as I do not have a garbage disposal. The inspector stated it had to have an air gap. Now I have water coming out the air gap all over the countertop. I am not sure what to do with this as we have to have this clear for the permit. This is a complete new install so we have check for blocks in all the lines. Thanks

Describe how you attached your lines to your air gap and whether you made sure that the lines were clear of debris in advance. Then I can help you to see what the obstacles may be.

This is all new construction and all new pipes. We did check for any blocks. The problem as I see it is design of the air gap. The "Y" connection of the pipe has a larger diameter line for the dishwasher drain then the line to the sink drian. So the water is slowed down going from dishwasher line to the drain line. The next thing I see is if the top of the air gap to the "Y" was a little longer to give space for the water to build up and then exit properly. Thanks

Make sure that the line from the dishwasher connects to the bottom (the vertical pipe) while the line to the drain comes off of the Y (angled part of the pipe). If you have it hooked up that way, you may have a defective air gap, so have it replaced.
