Help...remodeling Attic for Daughter...

My husband and I recently purchased our first home it is a 1910 craftsman and we love it however the home was advertised as a four bedroom the fourth being the supposed finished attic and unfortunately our inspector did not inspect all outlets and light fixtures to ensure they were operational. We found out that was not the case in the so called fourth bedroom (and alot of our house) and that actually only one power outlet works by the door and the light fixture above that however none of the other outlets work nor the original light fixture outlet. I am in the process of ripping out all of the plaster/drywall as it needs to be replaced and have that under control. I would like to save some bucks and rewire this room on my own especially if all of the walls are gone it's the perfect time I figure however I am unsure as to how to go about that process. any links or suggestions or help would be appreciated. I obviously wantt o keep what is there however I would like to get the othe light fixture back up and running to install a fan as it gets insanely hot up there and wit two other children she deserves a functional room! Is it possible to rewire the current electrical fixture into the old spot with obviously new wiring or would I be better off to start from scratch and if so any recommendations on how? Thanks so much for your help I truly appreciate it! Also the homes original glass windows are still up there is it possible to recase those without repolacing and where can I find out how to do this? Thanks for all of your help!

you have quite a bit to chew. I'd start with whole new wiring. whatever is up there is definately not up to code and probably dangerous. it'll need a new home run & breaker. one for the lighting & one for the outlets. luck to you.

I would rewire just for safety you should get an electrician to come and help with this. As for the windows you should check out double glazing them to make them better insulated.

I commend you for tackling all the plaster removal, but I would not jump into rewiring the space without experience. Do you know anyone with electrical experience who could work with you for a weekend? Otherwise, I would hire a licensed electrician. Too much could go wrong!

It is always possible to re model the electrical wiring and also it may take a small repair work to do that. ---- bhuvana house for sale by owner
