Bad Girl North,
Thanks for your post and your input. I agree that just focusing on changing the color of the drill is not the right solution for my project. From my research, I have found that Makita and Ryobi have some good drill options for women; they have models that are smaller and lighter weight but still have decent power. I also agree that an educational component needs to be included in my product design and packaging.
I'm still developing my design but hope to post it sometime within the next month once I have developed a solution.

I look for tools that have easy to grip handles, lightweight but sturdy, and are well balanced. I like a case that is convenient for storing any accessories for the tool. I also like well written instruction manuals.
Tomboy Tools is a company that sells tools specifically designed for women. They sell through home "parties" or workshops where women are taught to use the tools first. Their drill has a built in level so you know you are holding the drill straight.

Treehuggin, Thanks for your input! You have reiterated many of my research findings. On a side note, I am aware of Tomboy Tools and have been in touch with the company a bit. From my own research, I feel that their education component is stronger than their tool offerings. I'm not really sure they are "designing tools for women" but are offering women tools with some nice features and are then teaching women how to use their products properly. I applaud them for their efforts but if you go to Campbell Hausfeld.com you will find the same 12V drill that Tomboy Tools offers... only with a different label and a lower price... and this drill on their site doesn't say that it's for women. Have you heard of Barbara K? They also make tools for women and I feel like they have invested more time in actually designing the products for women, but what do i know?! Thanks for your help!
