Flooring

I bought my home approximately 2 years ago. Due to financial reason I am unable to do any profession remodeling. The carpet in my home is wore out and need to be change, but I would like to replace the carpet upstairs with wood and the capet down stairs with tile. People tell me that this is very difficult to do, but I feel I am up to the challenge. Can you provide step by step information on how to do the up stairs and the down stairs. Also, can you provide me with infomation of where I might be able to get these supplies at a reasonalbe rate. I have yet to measure the room to find out how much material it will take but that is the least. I would just like some information so I can get started. You help will be more than appreciated. Thanks.
