Water coming into the house is never a good thing. Thank you for putting up so many pictures. It makes it easier to see what you really have going on.

After looking at all of them it seems like there are a few things that you can try doing to make a change. First it does seem like you probably need to replace the door jam and seal the door. . You can typically buy a kit (a new threshold and new weather-stripping for the bottom of the door) at your local home improvement center containing all you need.

I was also wondering if the concrete had been sealed on your stoop. If not, concrete is porous and can pull water in so you should seal it with a concrete sealer. Then you should also seal the concrete to the house with silicone in case it's coming in from there.

Whether or not you'll have to replace the door jambs from excessive moisture, I can't really say from the look of the pictures alone. If they start to break apart easily while you're pulling up the threshold, that's an easy way to know.

I hope this helps some.

Hug 'n hammers,

Heidi

May I know what door jam is? Is it the white part or the brown part. I guess that the door jamb might be a vertical wood frame the door attached to it. Thanks Abby

Thanks Heidi and BeeCee: After cleaning the old caulk and filled those holes. New problem appears. As you can see, part of the vertical wood of the left sidelight is rotten. I think new wood frame or door jamb need replaced. Can you tell how? Regards Abby

What a door jamb is

A door jamb is the vertical part of the door - the part that stops the door in place when you close it. If this piece of wood seems to be decaying due to the water, then you may consider replacing it. Can you put a screwdriver through the wood easily? If so, it's time for a new one. Otherwise, you may be facing bigger problems down the road. You can go to your home improvement center and tell them the size/dimensions of your current door and they can help you pick out replacement parts.

Good luck!
