tough screws

How to remove tough screws without stripping them? I am always running into this problem and turn away from some well needed projects because of it.

I use a bigger size manual

I use a bigger size manual screw driver. (I found that I tend to strip the screws if I used an electric screwdriver.) If you do strip the screws you can always get a small drill bit and drill through the screw. Ok, so lets say you've already stripped a screw after only a few turns...I use pliers and unscrew it by clamping and spinning the pliers, and if I haven't gotten the screw out a little, I just use a hacksaw and saw through the stubborn screw. Hope this helps...I don't have any professional advice, just what I've learned through trial & error.

If the problem is paint on

If the problem is paint on the screw you can improve the grip by useing an old slot screwdriver with a thin head to 'chisel' the paint off or to improve the shape of a worn head. Also, i know this sounds like doing the opposite of what you need, but if you tighten the screw slightly it may help loosen it. If you can't tighten it with a screwdriver, place an old screwdriver on it and gently tap it with a hammer. Or you can use a drill bit that is smaller than the screw to gently drill through the screw. Keep in mind this may damage the drill bit. My husband got me a spray that helps with rusty screws. Its called 'Super-Crack' by a German company 'NORMFEST' and is used for working with car engines. Don't know where you can get it where you are as i live in ireland. You could try a car-part supplier. If none of the above work my last tip is to do what i regularly do and throw your tools down in disgust and walk away.

1) if your drill has

1) if your drill has adjustable torque, increase it and reduce the speed. 2) while using your drill, push really hard against the screw (note: you have to push straight into the screw head; not at an angle). the additional pressure can keep the bit from slipping. 3) use a hand screwdriver, and push really hard against the screw. 4) use vice-grips or pliers.
