Drywall Hanging

Hello How do you hang drywall in a room with existing walls? How do you determine where the studs are so that you can secure the drywall? Thanks

try tapping on the wall. when the sound changes that's a stud. if that dosen't work you can buy a stud finder for less than $20 at any home improvement store

i just found out that frame should be setting the studs every 16 inches on center, starting from the left. So if the original framers did their job right ( they don't always) you should be able to start on the left side of the wall and find a stud, then a stud every 16 inches to the right. When you get to a window, there will be additional stud to support it, but also, there studs that are on the 16 inch on center system will be in place. They are cut short to allow the window opening. These short studs are called cripples. All electrical boxes should be attached to a stud. So, since you are going to cover the existing wall with new sheetrock, then just bust a hole through the wall and find a stud. Then measure over 16 inches and pound a nail into the wall and see if you hit wood. Or buy a stud finder. Not a magnetic one though. Good luck
