As for why the floor was dug up in the first place is the home is over 100 years old and in GOOD shape, but the original floor (yes it was concrete) was only about 1 1/2 inches thick! I decided to replace the floor to a proper thickness and add to the ceiling height by digging down below the original floor depth. That's how I found the "no footer" issue. I cannot believe someone would build a house without a footer! Oh well, back in those days, I guess....

You should try digging down a bit deeper on the edges & running rebar completly around the walls. then rent a rotohammer & carefully drill holes into the wall. this should make up for the lack of a footer for your house & help prevent any problems that will cause in the future. Just make certain that your footer is heavy enough to suport your house.
