Breaking any wood product is a BAD habit to start. Even something as small as a toothpick has fibers that hold together BETTER if they are CUT, rather than bending them back and forth to break them.So get out your razor knife and CUT those small pieces of wood........shims, wedges,and yes, even toothpicks.
