Crazy question! I saw a home improvement show last night where they actually installed bead-board in a bathroom, without removing the existing ceramic tile. They just glued and nailed right through the tiles, then installed a narrow shelf at the top to cover up the gap where the bull-nose row meets the wall. I'm afraid to take off our tiles, because there's plaster behind the ceramic, but they are so ugly... will this technique really work, and will it stand up over time?
