cane bottom dining chairs


Has anyone replaced the cane bottom in a dining chair with an upholstered cushion? The cane bottom is one piece held to the chair frame with 2 wood screws. My plan is to cut a wooden base for the seat that will fit within the frame, add foam/batting, then cover foam with fabric to create a new upholstered cushion. Am I on the right track or way off base? Gwen

You definitely can replace the seats with an upholstered piece. First you will need to take out the seat and cut out a piece of ply wood to use instead. Then it's just the same steps as upholstering a head board and screw it back in. Just follow the steps in the article below:
