Custom-built furniture

I know that there is a TON of talent out there among you Janes and I would love to see your carpentry projects. I'll start off with a few of mine.

I wanted to make a dresser, but something fun and VERY girly! My favorite thing to do is to sketch out a design and then try to build to match it. But the reason I like working with wood so much is that it's very forgiving. Many of my designs come out of making mistakes and just going with them. I made the drawer fronts the wrong size, so instead of starting over, I just added some funky jut-out trim surrounds. Then liking the texture that I was creating, I added another layer to the top drawers to create depth. Finally, I used a Dremel to finish off the detail by 'routing' out a swirl design on the cabinet base.

Here's one of my walking bug tables. My boys needed a low table for the art center I created for them, so rather than a square table, I put my jigsaw to work and cut out a funky, curvy shape and then made the legs with copper pipe tht I bent on a pipe-bender. A bit of paint, and a lot of fun!

I'd love to see some of your creations, post your projects here!

Gaby... Question: How the heck did you light the top of your valences? I just made two valences for my bedroom and would love to know how to do what you did. So clever! Thanks, Lisa (very new to the site and to doing my own home projects)
