cutting window in door

I have a hollow exterior (side) door that I would like to cut a window into. Is this possible? I would like to let some light much needed light into a dark kitchen by doing so....cannot replace the door as $$$ is an issue and it's a rental. Thanks so much!

The good news is it is possible. The bad news is it's not easy and beyond the skills of the average DIYer. The door has thin veneer strips that run back and forth all thru it. To make the hole is simple, just cut it in where you want it. Now comes the fun part, installing the backing. For this you'll need to rip down Kilndried material to fit in between the door skins. I'd use a table saw. Now carefully remove the strips around the hole to allow the backing to be installed. Carefull not to take to much as it will ruin the door. Then glue in the backing strips for the window and install the window. Luck to you with it, Gerald
