Cleaning glass shower doors

Although I squeegy the shower doors faithfully, they are still streaked and look dirty. Anyone know how to clean them, other than using Windex-which isn't working.

This may work for you. When we bought our home two years ago the shower door was so covered in soap scum and even mold that I saturated the whole shower with mildew remover and let it sit for half an hour. When I rinsed it all away I was left with a shower door that was still covered in scum. I sprayed oven cleaner on it and let it sit again for a half an hour. Rinse and it looks like new.

oven cleaner is a great idea!! After we clean our glass shower door we put Rain X on the glass just like you would on your car windshields.

Oven cleaner ,then use an automatic shower cleaner

Spray the doors with oven cleaner and let it set for an hour or so then rinse real well with super hot water . Don't forget to open the bathroom window to ventilate or turn on the exhaust fan if there are no windows. It will sparkle like new . Then buy one of those automatic shower cleaners and just press the button once a day and you will not get any gunky build up anywhere in your tub or shower.

Sparkling clean shower doors!

I use Tilex or CLR for my glass shower doors. Spray on, let sit, and rinse off. Windex usually isn't strong enough when you have "soap scum" build-up. After cleaning the glass, you can use paste car wax (apply, let dry, then wipe off). This helps to prevent the icky build up. Also, after every shower, be sure to RINSE any soap off the shower doors prior to using a squeegee.

just wondering if the oven cleaner would damage a pvc bath? was also thinking of using car wax to keep the tile grout from getting stained with hair dye. grey hair = lots of hair dye.

Oven Cleaner & cleaning shower doors-be careful!

I just cleaned my shower doors and no doubt they are sparkling, but it looks like the finish around the chrome has been eaten off. I live in a 2 year old condo, I'm the only one who ever lived here and I believe the developers used the cheapest fixtures possible. There's a little possibility that what looks like damaged chrome is actually just soap scum, but I don't think so. Just wanted to let someone know!

Have you tried vinegar? Strait out of the bottle it does wonders for glass and its cheap and won't destroy your pipes or your skin. Just thoroughly wet the door down with a sponge or wet plastic brush and use a plastic brush to scrub it off and rinse. It you want to do less scrubbing soak paper towels in vinegar and stick them up on the doors for a few minutes, then remove, scrub and rinse. The doors come out sparkling even with my orange tinged calcified well water. This works on dirty glass fireplace doors too. Mammu

EASY AS PIE, SPRAY WITH GREASE LIGHTENING AND USE THE MAGIC ERASER SPONGE AND RINSE WITH WATER. DRY WITH TOWEL AND WATCH THE SHINE COME THROUGH. OVEN CLEANER IS OK ON FIBERGLASS TUBS BUT DO NOT USE ON CAST IRON TUBS IT WILL RUIN THE FINISH. NAVEL JELLY IS AWESOME FOR REMOVING RUST, LIME AND HARD WATER DEPOSITS FROM BATHROOM TUBS, SINKS. AND TOILETS. NAVEL JELLY CAN BE FOUND AT AUTOMOTIVE STORES.

Cleaning glass shower doors

I once moved into a 30 year old house and was prepared to buy a new shower door. The door was so covered in hard water crud and soap scum I wouldn't let my son step foot in the shower. I remembered a military family told me they used Skin So Soft by Avon to "clear quarters" when they moved to a new location. I put a heavy dose of the oil on the door, let it sit for a couple of hours and couldn't believe my eyes when I went back in to clean it! Just wiped off the oil - (and be sure to do this thoroughly and not just rinse off the oil on to the shower floor and clean the shower floor to prevent slipping!) and it shined as though it were new! Each month I wiped a small amount of SSS on a rag and wiped it over the door to keep it clean. SSS doesn't smell like oven cleaner either - so, a double bonus. SSS is also the best bug repellent you will ever use, too!
