Bamboo flooring for living room

I'd like to know if anyone has experience with bamboo in a high traffic area. I'm worried about how well it will hold up in foyer which opens into a living room. Also, most of the bamboo I've been looking at online appears to be prefinished. But one of the things I like about wood is that you can refinish it when it gets beat up-- can you do the same with bamboo?

From what I hear, bamboo is one of the best types of wood floors for wear and tear and repelling water (since it grows in water). should be a strong option for you and your floors. Good luck.

Are you going to install it yourself? I know costco sells it, but how hard is it to install? Anyone know?

I just installed it myself and it is not that easy. I used pre-finished from Home Depot and I found that it scratches easy. It has a beautiful look but I am not sure how durable it is. The water issue is not that true because if you read on the directions it says not to put in very moist areas. I am not sure about the reinishing process either. I would reccomend that you go to Home Depot and get a sample piece. they sell them for a dollar, take it home and sand on it to see if you think you can repaint it. The Cowgirl

Be careful with the quality!

Some of the bamboo that you can get from Lowe's/HomeDepot are not as tough as they claim to be, especially if you have children or pets. A friend of mine used the bamboo flooring materials from www.plyboo.com and she loves it. It is a lot more ecologically aware than many other bamboo products as well.
