laminated floor

I purchased a home that has a light laminated floor in the front entry area. Under that is hard wood that needs major repair. Is it possible to paint over the laminated floor? I can not afford to replace it to go with my furnishing, nor do I have the time of budget to repair the original hardwood. I know that I can paint laminated countertops and cabinets, but i just don't know about the flooring boards. I want to give the floor a dark grey slate look. I have tried getting my question answered by the manufacture, but they suggest I buy a new floor. Any help will be appreciated. Delicious

What is under the hardwood?

I would be conserned that the paint will wear quickly, especially because it is in a high traffic area. What is under the hardwood? If you have a concrete slab, I suggest removing the laminate and hardwood so you can acid stain the slab. DCsurfaces.com offers a very low cost acid staining kit (about $1 per square foot).
