The area that I live in has strict water restrictions-due to low lake levels and a drought. I have some grass in the front yard but hardly any in the back and side of the house. I don't want to loose the little grass I do have- I just sprayed the weeds, to get rid of them-too many to pull. I was thinking of adding compost to the yard to get away from chemicals to help build up the soil and the roots for the grass. The grass is Bermuda which is a good drought tolerant grass for the area. Will this work in helping save the grass and possibly getting the roots established?
The backyard really doesn't have any grass just weeds( 20% grass, 30% weeds and 50% clay dirt. I've starting adding flower beds around the deck and screen in porch to take up some of the yard. I do have a natural area as well that I'm adding drought tolerant plants. I really can't lay sod or add grass seed, but I don't want the weeds to take over so I'm not sure what I can do. We can only hand water 2 twice a week so I'm getting a small rain barrel to collect rain water and re-cycled "gray water".
