I am in the process of remodeling a room on the second floor of my house. Unfortunately, this room is where ugly went to die, complete with wood paneling, carpet with no padding, and ceiling tiles. My problem is that I do not know what to do with the ceiling tiles: they are very outdated. They are stuck on the ceiling with adhesive. I tried prying them off with a putty knife which only resulted in parts of the tile shredding off like cardboard. Also, I am now concerned that there may be asbestos lurking up there.
Is it possible to buy new ceiling tiles and put them up over the old ones? I do not want to paint the current tiles.
