painting stripes

These are some pics of my basement that I just finished painting. I wanted to set the tv area apart from the rest of the large downstairs area, so I created a little "nook" with horizontal stripes. The new retro orange sofa is on its way to match the orange stripe in the picture. I planned out the orange stripe at the top to follow the face of the soffit. That way it disguises it a little more. The next size stripe was planned to run equal with the bottom of the window. I also made the width of the stripes all different to give it a little bit of a random look (though I planned it out to 1/16 of an inch.) Though the colors don't show very well, I used a burnt orange, pale blue, and a creamy color. I don't think anyone will miss this area now! I am very, very happy with how it turned out. My words of advice on this project... #1 Delicate painters tape is much easier to tape lines with and to tear off. As you know, one big mess up on this project, and I would have had to scrap the whole thing. #2 The advice to paint the edges of the tape with the backround wall color is simply genius. Worked perfectly, and gave me the crispest lines I could only dream of. #3 Give yourself time to let paint dry. This is at least a one week project if you're doing it yourself. Make sure that base color is dry! #4 A regular 4'level worked even better than a laser level on this project.

the new sofa that is on the way!

What a fabulous area! I am completly jealous! Great advice on the stripes. I've been contemplating them for a smaller bedroom in my home, but I think you've pushed me over the edge.

I love the color choices and that sofa is amazing!
