Topic: How to build a platform bed
Many questions...We want to mel4357 writes: Tue, 01/29/2008 - 1:21pm
Many questions...We want to build a more traditional platform bed. Just a wood platform on a 6 or 8 inch square support frame/foundation. No head board, no storage, no bookcases. We will use a top mattress only - no box springs. We have two queen size platforms that we purchased from local furniture stores but we just redid our master bedroom and want to build a king size bed. I never thought of a weight limit; I guess it would need to be 500-700lb limit as we have two labs. I guess we want basic functional, solid wood, etc.
We have all the necessary tools and experience building various things.

I'm still not picturing what you want. How high do you want it to sit off the ground? Would you prefer the flex of slats, or do you want a solid surface? If you like the design of your queen platforms, post a picture here. Do you want solid sides, down to the floor, or a space underneath (if so, how much space)? Do you want the mattress to set down into the frame or sit on top of it? If set inside, how deep do you want it to be? If you explore online, you'll see that there is no such thing as a standard platform bed. If you can describe what you want in more detail, I could give you the material list and describe how to cut it and put it together. I also need to know the exact measurements of your mattress (length, width & height).

I can help you with information about how to make a memory foam mattress. This will surely increase the comfort degree of your bed and all your neighbours will envy you...
Check out your options before you design matt-holmes writes: Wed, 10/15/2008 - 6:29pm
You might want to check out some platform beds to find the design that you want. There are lots of different bed frames on the market. Some of them are very simple. Check around before you plan to get the overall look that you want. You can also make a platform bed with slats that will support your mattress.
