Painting over stained wainscoting

My family room has wall to wall wainscoting which is stained. I would love to paint over it, but am not sure what I need to do to prepare. I hope not to have to sand it as it has many grooves and would not be a do-able thing.

As long as you prime your wainscoting, it will be okay to paint.
