I need to repair a section of my driveway (at the beginning). Before I bought the house, the house next door had drain pipes that were missing sections and when it rained, water just pounded away at the driveway, cracking the asphalt. The drainpipes have been repaired and I want to fix the section. My plan is to add gravel, tamp it down and then fill it with asphalt. Is this the correct way?
PS, I've decided to do this (with help from a friend of mine) because after interviewing tons of contractors decided I could do this better and with more integrity. The decision was made after the interviewing yet another contractor...who proceeded to measure my driveway by 'walking it' and then giving me a measurement that was 25' too much! (Oh, and he had no license!)
Thanks for your help.

Contractors will typically try to talk you into repaving everything :o)
As long as the drainpipes are repaired, you should be able to patch yourself, but you will always see the old/new lines.
good luck
