Shabby Chic

I still like shabby chic but I don't know of any good places on line to shop for stuff. Anyone have any suggestions?

With a quick google search I found a site called Cottage Chic that handles Shabby Chic style furniture and accessories. But if you are a Jane, it is easy to turn a piece of furniture that you have into shabby chic perfection. Distressing is one of the easiest of decorative painting techniques to do.

I have found lots of stuff on Ebay in the past but haven't looked for any lately. As Gulleyjimson suggests, creating your own shabbiness using distressing techniques is pretty easy not to mention rewarding. Last year I distressed a small table for my Victorian-style bathroom as well as an old window frame I bought at a flea market. The table is old and it was stained a very dark walnut color which I didn't like at all but love the little table. I left the old stain on, painted antique white latex paint over it, sanded it lightly after the paint dried then using a dark tinted glaze, I painted this in the corners to give it a really old appearance. If you decide to do this technique, only sand the areas where the paint would naturally be worn off like the corners and edges. I used the same technique on the window frame as well as a little shelf. Remember, if you hate it, it's only paint and just paint over it or sand it off and start over!!

If you don't mind buying online, I like to keep my eye on various eBay stores. I've had pretty good luck with eBay stores because they're usually a person's business. Check out this store for shabby chic--all kinds of good stuff. --JV
