Is there an effective cat-deterrent out there?

arrgghhh! The neighborhood cats think my flower garden is a litter box! I've tried cayenne pepper, moth balls and tiny tail-clipping mouse traps, all to no avail! Help! They're killin' my plants!

There is this stuff you can buy called Shake Away that contains the scent of a large predator, scaring away cats. It's all natural and won't harm your plants or kids. Hope this helps!

i have both an indoor cat and a dog so i've not tried this. however, one of my neighbors, who is not fond of the cats that do roam the neighborhood, has taken glass bottles and filled them with water and then capped them; she then placed them around her flower beds. the theory is that cats can see some sort of reflection and are deterred. most of these are half gallon and gallon size. during the day, you really can't even see them as they've been hidden well in her plants. the other thing she added recently was moth balls. that also works. no one, human or animal, likes the odor!! good luck with the critters. i couldn't have done it if..... i hadn't tried! put a little love in your heart and adopt a stray. then remember to neuter and spay!

Cure for the cats...

Well, living in a neighborhood where all the cats roam free - there is no such spray, powder or other additive that will make a cat (especially males) stop using your flower beds once they start. They all have to make their mark. However - a great hardware solution - metal fencing like chicken wire. Just place in your flowerbeds before you place seeds or your perennials begin to emerge ( you can cut this around any flowers or shrubs that may not die down for the winter) - your plants will cover it nicely when they start to grow. But the cats will hate it - they can't dig in it, and it's a little rough on the paws. Look for some kind of neutralizer for your flower beds to cut out the "marks" they have already placed in your beds - this will help your plants and start the process of renewing your flowerbeds. :)
