Still Running!

My toilet seems to have a mind of its own. It continues to run and it's driving me nuts. I've replaced the fill valve/flapper assembly. I used a Fluimaster, which I've had good luck with before in our old house. I followed the directions to the letter, no complications. It was fine for about 3 days, then started to run a little bit more and more. Now the sound is audible down the hall, the water in the bowl is always ripplping, and even my kids are asking me why it's still broken. Help!

Without actually seeing your problems it could be several things..."Did you replace the plastic ring (seal) that is on the very bottom of the fill tank"? Before you do that...another question I have: "Is the water filling all the way back up to where it should be by the fill valve?? If this is where the water is "bubbling" - The fill valve needs to be adjusted (probably lowered, by turning/screwing it carefully as not to break it)...I would turn off the water to the tank, flush the commode and then adjust the fill valve. Try this & see if it works & hopefully the water will be level with the fill valve, etc. Good Luck! Shannon~Atlanta Georgia

Your tank level is bypass and causing to draining to the overflow plumbing. 1. Open the tank cover. 2. Check to see if it is overflowing to the overflow plumbing. 3. Adjust the water level by squeeing the adjustment clip and moving the float cup down. 4. The water level should be 1/8" from the top of the overflow plumbing. 5. The water level is fine when you properly adjusted the level below the overflow plumbing. 6. If the water is not overflowing then you have to inspect the overflow tubes. Take a look at the bottom of the tube. Is the water leak pass the bottom. Take a look inside the toilet is the water keeps running. If it's does then you will need a fill valve assembly. Turn off the water supply valve. Take the fill valve assembly out and take it to the plumbing supply and replace it. 7. Add a quart of water inside the tsnk to make sure that it's not leaking. If it's okay. Then turn on the water supply valve on the wall. It if is okay. Then your finish.

I had the same problem. I went to my local hardware store and told them that my toilet was "ghosting". I bought the Fluidmaster complete repair kit. I also replaced the rubber gasket and the bolts between the tank and the stool. If the bolts are rusted, you can get a special spray from your local hardware store to loosen them. I had to use it several times before it finally worked.
