Ashley Painting boyfriends room


My boyfriend and I are painting his room in the basement of an old house and he has some stains on the wall. I don't know if it's mold or what? There is a lot of dust down there so I was just wondering if we should wipe the walls down before we paint? I heard that you should use a bleach rag to get that gunk off the walls? Any other suggestions?

I would DEFINITELY clean the walls. Use bleach or ammonia (be sure to wear a mask as to not affixiate yourselves) - that stuff can cause major health issues not to mention it doesn't mix well with paint. Painting is hard enough - don't make it harder!

I would also recommend a stain-blocking primer like Zinsser or Kilz.
