Painting or staining laminate Cabinets

I have white laminate cabinets and want to either stain or paint them a warmer color. Maybe even a faux finish might do! Is there a way to do this or am I going to have to look at these white cabinets for awhile?

Actually, you should definitely be able to paint them. You'll have to be sure to sand off the "shine" of the laminate, and then prime it with a quality primer (Kils makes a great primer for this job and most home improvement stores carry this brand.) Your quality of primer will be key because you'll want the new paint to adhere to the old laminate. You can also do any type of faux finish you want once you've sanded and primed the cabinets. Have fun!

Thanks Gadget Girl!! Big Grin I was starting to think I was stuck with these boring white cabinets. Now I'm inspired. Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures when I'm done.

I would agree that you can

I would agree that you can paint those laminated cabinets, and that you should sand them fairly aggressively before applying a primer. However, I would not recommend Kilz. You should use something designed specifically for plastic surfaces, such as Fine Paints of Europe primer for non-ferrous metals and plastics known as Keyprimer.
