Staining issue

I live in an old country house & had kitchen cabinets that were a mess but not replaceable unless I was ready to do the whole kitchen. I stripped the paint off of them (approx. 10 coats), sanded them & stained them w/additional molding. The stain on the cabinets & molding look beatiful but the stain on the doors is dissapearing in areas. I have tried to apply the stain again which does not work. I believe the issue is the wood; the doors are made of plywood versus the cabinets are made of pine. Does anyone know of a wood cleaning/staining/repairing product that would possibly take care of this problem until I am ready to replace the cabinets? Thank you.

Use a pre-stain wood conditioner before applying stain to soft woods. That way, the stain will be more even.

As you have found out it very hard to restain or paint doors. new doors will stain and paint much easier. Price will depend on the type of wood and number of doors.
