removing or covering textured wallpaper

The wallpaper in my house was put on without sizing underneath. When I try to remove it, the wall boards are badly gouged, but it is well adheared, so I have twice successfully painted over two rooms. My problem is the hall way which had ugly textured wallpapaer from the chairail down. I can't remove it, can't paint over it, can I put new wallboard over it and paint? Put wainscoating over it? Any other solutions? Thanks, Caroline

Hi I suppose you could put new wall board over it, fill the joints and then use lining paper, then paint. Hope this helps Good Luck . Sarah Love http://www.grahamvideos.co.uk .

Caroline If you use a shellac based primer by zinsser, you can do almost anything over it - paint, wallpaper, faux. Have you tried putting up beadboard? I nailed mine rather than glue and it worked very well in a bathroom that had damage from wallpaper and bad borders. There are also some textured primers that may be able to cover that enough that you feel good about it. You could also try a tuscan plaster type faux look or torn paper faux over it. Good luck, Nona
