We had a mold problem in our bathroom, and I decided that instead of scraping the walls, I would take down the plaster and lathe (leaving the 1940's tile and backer) and replace with green board. At the same time, I installed a fan, moved a light, and enlarged the space for the medicine cabinet. So far so good.
Apparently, I applied the joint compound too thickly in some areas (two of the corners and some places where the ceiling meets the wall.) It's been very hot and humid here, so in order to facilitate drying, I put a dehumidifier in the bathroom today when I went to work. (The mud was applied late last night.) I returned home to find that the areas where I had applied it too thickly, the compound was not dry all the way through, plus it was shrinking and cracked a bit.
So now what? Should I just wait til it dries and sand, then apply more? Or should I remove it and start fresh in those areas?
Thanks in advance!
