2 Things: Moving a Water Heater and Adding a Dryer Hook-up in L.R.

I am trying to redo our awful laundry room. In addition to it being an odd size and having doors located in strange areas, I am fighting two other problems. 1) The water heater is taking up room and I want it moved. On the opposite side of the wall (in the hallway behind the laundry room) are two closets. One houses the A/C unit and the other is a little used linen closet that we do not need. I would love to move the W.H. into the little used linen closet (and retain the shelves higher up for storage). Can it be done? It would easily fit in there but would it be dangerous or a hassle? 2) The main reason that I want to move the W.H. is that I want to move the washer and dryer back into the house. They are currently in an AWFUL shed next to the house. The soon to be a laundry room has hook-ups for a washer but oddly enough there is nothing for the dryer. I want them both in there. How hard is it to include a hook-up for a dryer? What do I need? How would I do it. Any help or suggestions on these matters would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had my water heater in my laundry room too. I had it removed. I have had it replaced with a tankless water heater now. Yes it was pricey, but totally worth it. This is not a do it yourself project, honestly. If you have ever considered this option it has definitely been worth it. You get endless hot water and you get that water heater out! It is small and is mounted on the outside of my house. Mine may have cost more because of the location. They need to be installed in the right place, which is why I had it installed by the manufactures. You ought to to look into it, I'm glad I did.
