Looking for Victorian hardware

I need replacement latches for some built-ins that I'm fixing up. They're the kind that have an oval knob that turns. I also need hinges with ball ends. Anyone know where I can get these? The local store said they're way too old to be carried there. These are probably original to the house (1925), but the latches are beat up and the hinges are covered in 6 layers of paint. (Curses to those that paint over hinges! Those things were hard to get off!)

I agree about those who paint old antique pieces. Grrr. LOL If you haven't found the replacement latches yet, try Renovator's Supply. A really good source for replacing antique hardware.

I have bought old glass door knobs on it. You may even be able to get replicas. You should be able to get the old paint off the hinges. I suggest soaking the hinges in paint stripper for a day or so. Maybe calling a historical society as well. They may know of a distributor or a house slated for demo that you may be able to get items from. ~~~***~~~~ MY MOTTO: "If you screw up...make sure it looks like it should have been that way in the first place!"
