I have a 40-year old house that has a few cracks in the ceilings and over door frames. I've been in the house for 7 years and the cracks don't appear to be growing. I've used tape/spackle in some of the rooms which worked fine in those places. Recently, I started to tackle another room with a crack in the ceiling. I taped/spackled and smoothed it out so you couldn't even tell it had been patched except the rest of the ceiling was a bit more shiny. Well, time got away from me and I haven't had time to prime/paint the ceiling yet. After a couple weeks, the crack seems to be coming back - you can see the strings from the tape where the crack is. To my simple mind, it looks like it was caused by expansion and contraction. My question is - do you think I have a bigger problem or was this just because I didn't prime/paint right away. I just spent more time fixing the spackle and don't want to waste too much more time priming and painting if there is something else I should do first. Will the primer resolve it?
Thank you!
