Where do you store your tools?+

I currently have a workbench in my garage with my toolbox and some of my tools stored around it. I love the workbench, it is my dad's old one. However, it is large and since we don't have a huge garage, I am considering moving it to the basement. But.....would that put all of my stuff too far away? Or would it be better to have more space to store things without cars and things in the way? Where do you store your tools so they are the most convenient?

Tool storage

I have a small storage shed by my back door. It is great because it is handy to get to and since I have the only key to the lock, it keeps my sons and husband out of them. I also keep my garden cart in there. It would be nice if they would leave my tools alone so I can find them.

In my closet

We currently live in a rental apartment that comes with a garage that faces an alley. This being the case it's been broken into one too many times and if someone tries to steal my compound miter saw one more time I think I would probably lose it!

So my tools reside in my front hall closet which is great for easy access but not so great for the coats as after each new project I get sawdust every where!

In my garage

I'm lucky since I have a garage that is my workshop and holds all my tools. But I too have to fight with my kids' toys and my husbands golf clubs to keep all of 'that mess' out of my nice clean workshop! We haven't parked a car in here since we moved in 7 years ago. It's my meca and I love going there to chill out and work on projects.

Now I just have to get one of these so that I can actually clean all the paint off my garage floor. Then perhaps I'll paint the walls a fun lime green - why not?!

I even have a fun light switch plate!

Well, I have some in the garage - with the kids' toys. Some in my closet upstairs, behind the shoe rack, some in the extra room closet and some under the stairs. What ever happened to basements?

I first found this toolbox on your web site a while back and thought it was SO perfect for my tools. And you were right! I absolutely love it because not only does it store all my tools, but the wheels let me move it around without having to pick it up and carry it. I've told a bunch of friends about it already, it's a good option if you have a bunch of hand tools and some power tools and need to keep them all together in one place. I think the coolest thing is the swivel out tray for nails and screws - pretty neato!

Check it out!

My tools are in the crawl space beneath the house and in our California basement. :)

I have all the miscellaneous spots in the laundry room taken up by my tools. Now if I can just keep the grease off the clothes!

Space is limited, but I built these great pull out 'drawers' that are basically boxes on casters that slide under my bed and are hidden by my bedskirt. In the left one I have all my hand tools. I built in dividers into the drawers so that they all stay in place. Then in the right one is where I keep my power tools. It actually works quite well.

Allocated a separate cabinet in the kitchen just for my tools. Sliding drawers deep enough to hold everything. love having easy access to everything. I keep another large plastic containter in the studio with all the odds and ends.

i bought this plastic shed at the home improvement store and i store all my painting tools and supplies here. it is too exposed to the outside world to leave any really valuable tools but it is a great place for brushes and paint cans.
