Finally a kitchen I love!!!

When I moved into my first home I had no money to hire someone to redo my kitchen for me. (I actually had very little money period, which made eating out not a possibility.) So it was up to me to turn my kitchen dungeon into a dream.

I started by sanding down all of the of the cabinets and drawers, adding molding to the doors, added crown molding, molding to the base of the upper cabinets, primed, painted and put on new door handles and knobs.

When I was done I had spent $400 dollars on my cabinets when all new cabinets would have cost me over $20,000!

Take a look at my before during and after pics!

My ugly old kitchen!

Painted and primed w/molding on the doors. Still missing crown and lower moldings as well as handles.

Finally a kitchen that welcomes me and my creativity!

WOW!! You did a great job!! I'm battling right now with our cabinets - I've hated them from day one (country oak) and we are finally hoping to replace them this year. Congrats on your redo -- you should send in your photos to a magazine

You let the light in on both your creativity and your kitchen! Love how the crown molding made it look so much more appealing.

Thanks everyone for such kind words! I know that I love my kitchen but it's always so neat to hear that it came out as great as I thought from others.

I did the same thing with the cabinets in my townhouse. It was really rewarding and everyone else in the complex saw my kitchen cabinets and wanted to hire me to do theirs.

Handymom,

We would love to see how it turned out! If you have any before and after or even if you have just after pics, please put them up. You might be surprised at the amount of inspiration your kitchen can create!

You have lifted my spirits and my confidence. Truely I have the worse kitchen cabinents in the whole world. (Don't we all feel like that)? I have an additional problem with the doors; each of them so proudly display two indented straight grooves on either side of the hardware. Making them look even more like 1970's panelling gone oh so very wrong.

I am 66 and hated my kitchen cabinets. Could not afford to have new ones so I cleaned them with orange cleaner real good and bought a can of Merlot (wine colored oil stain)and rubbed in in with a pair of my husbands underware. He said it would not work. Well, it did , and they are just beautiful. Total cost was $9.00. You youngsters keep up the good work. I love to see young women be independent as I always have been. We are a pretty smart group. grandma Bert.

It looks sooo good! I am in the same situation. I bought my first home and have done so much already and am more or less out of money. Only problem is that I really want to fix up my kitchen so I can live with until I have enough money to completely redo it. You are truly an inspiration.
