My Shoestring Cottage in Cape Town

Hi all you amazing women in the Be Jane community! I live in Simon's Town at the tip of the African continent, legendary meeting place of the two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. I am in the process of building my own little cottage on a shoestring budget, hence the name, Shoestring Cottage! You can see my blog at http://www.shoestringcottage.co.za I would welcome all your comments. This little piece of heaven is going to be my own home for Kate (my beautiful, bright, clever, wonderful daughter) and myself - my very own home that I won't EVER have to leave again. Women in South Africa are so ready to be empowered, they are strong and amazing, and I am proud of being part of the transformation that is taking place in South Africa. Inspired by this community and people like Tom Landis of ownerbuilder.com I am trying to build a community of women, just like this, and am in the process of setting up a website for the fierce and fearless women in my country. I would welcome any articles and stories for my website that you might want to share - naturally I will credit all authors for their stories, hints, tips, advice, suggestions. My new website will be going live next week - yay - and I am hoping that soon we will have a community of incredible women just like Be Jane across the ocean. Meantime, here is a pic of my corner of the world. Be well and be safe, wherever you may be or go. Annie K

Wow! Another South African woman on Bejane. I am so happy to hear it, and so proud that such an initiative is taking place. I live down in Jozi...or is it up in Jozi? myself and I'm undertaking many home improvement projects myself!! I just recently had my bath re-enamelled, which small as it may seem has made fire under me again. So many of my recent projects have failed or gone sour - not necessarily due to any fault of my own... though some were a direct result of a lack of knowledge... Anyway this last project has inspired me to complete my bathroom renovation project, so I am a for away again!! Good luck building your new home!!
