Dogs nails are removing grout from between my floor tiles

Help! I am tired of re-grouting my floors every few months. I have three large dogs and installed porcelain tiles for obvious reasons. Now I have the problem that their nails keep removing the grout. I have asked at my local flooring store for a grout that would be stronger and resist the wear from their nails, but they keep insisting there is nothing stronger to use than the Portland cement based grout. I follow the instructions perfectly, the grout looks great for a few weeks, and I soon see the grout being popped out because of their nails. Anyone have this problem? Know of any solutions? I would appreciate any advise, links to information, etc. Thanks

I have large dogs and tile floors and have never had this problem. if your dogs are removing the grout with their nails you don't need a different grout you need to take them and get their nails trimmed

Glad to hear you do not have that problem. I should have been more specific in my original post, but the dogs nails are trimmed weekly, so I cannot see that this is a problem. Thank you for your post.

This may work, my not. well just to be funny put boots on their feet. you can use rugs. or just keep them out side, I'm not sure if this would be good for your tile but use paint calk over the grout. so it will last longer. sorry if what I said won't work though. Laurie

Sealant

Good morning, Has the grout been sealed? Grout, by itself will not hold up to wear and tear. If it has not been sealed, I would re-grout wherever there is a need and then put on the sealer. Hope that helps.

If the tile is over a wood

If the tile is over a wood subfloor, it could be a bad job of prep'ing the floor for tile (an unstable subfloor would allow flex, which would cause the grout to crack and pop out). But you'd probably also be experiencing broken/loose tiles.

If the floor is solid, I'd guess the tile guy messed up his mix when he made the grout. If most of the floor is sound (try scraping the grout in a few places with a screwdriver), you can just scrape out the bad spots and regrout them. But if the grout is bad all over, you'll want to remove all the grout, and then regrout the whole floor. It's not a technically difficult job - just tedious. After regrouting, besure to apply a grout sealer.

Why don't you try sealing the grout?
