Does anyone have pointers for refinishing teak veneer? Can it be sanded??

You can redo your teak!

Sure, teak can definitely be sanded though I've never heard of a teak veneer. Just be careful not to sand it too much, depending on how thick the veneer is. Also make sure you are wearing a good mask and are sanding it outside because the dust can be pretty bad for you. Then you'll need to use teak oil on top of it to show off all of the beautiful grains in it. We actually refinished a teak table that came out really great. Be VERY careful sanding veneer!

Wood veneers typically range from 1/32nd to 1/50th of an inch - about the thickness of 5 sheets of paper! Teak furniture is normally solid teak. But if the item really is veneer, proceed with caution. If the piece is valuable, consult with a furniture restoration shop. The veneer on an old marquetry piece can become dried out and seperate from the underlying wood. Try sanding it and you'll destroy it.
