Be VERY careful sanding veneer! jeffe_verde writes: Wed, 11/22/2006 - 6:22pm
Wood veneers typically range from 1/32nd to 1/50th of an inch - about the thickness of 5 sheets of paper! Teak furniture is normally solid teak. But if the item really is veneer, proceed with caution. If the piece is valuable, consult with a furniture restoration shop. The veneer on an old marquetry piece can become dried out and seperate from the underlying wood. Try sanding it and you'll destroy it.
