Topic: Toilet Tank Won't Fill Up
flapper OK...must be something else (photo included) evidentress writes: Wed, 06/06/2007 - 1:15pm
I have the same problem as anniewilsondc, but the flapper is OK. It's almost as if lube of some sort put where the small lever is connected to the top of the mechanism would take care of the problem. But all of the parts are plastic and I'm not sure if the cap is made to be removed. When I manually push the lever down it makes a tight squeak sound when it finally hits the correct spot for the tank to start filling. (SEE PHOTO)
Thanks for any advice you can give me :)

Flapper?

1) Turn off the water supply valve beneath the toilet
2) Flush the toilet (the tank should drain and not refill)
3) Remove the existing flapper. Some are attached with rubber "ears" on either side of overflow tube, others have a rod coming out of the center.
4) Make note of the brank of your toilet, then take the old flapper to your local hardware store to find a matching replacement. Most flappers are generic, but a few makers (e.g. Kohler), have their own design.
5) Install the new flapper and turn the water back on at the supply valve.
