Replacing roof flashing

Help! We have an older home, and the ceiling over our sunroom is leaking. I know we need to replace the flashing that covers the joint between an exterior wall and roof above this room, and the cedar shakes on the wall above the flashing are not in great shape. Plus, the roof turns out to have about three layers of shingles on it. Anyone have some recommendations? Is this a do-it-ourselves job, or do we need professional help?

Replacing a few damaged

Replacing a few damaged shingles can be a DYI task -- but what makes you suspect the flashing? Is it visibly damaged or incorrectly installed? If the current roof is older than 20 years, you probably need to plan on re-roofing - including stripping off all the old layers (local building codes actually define how many layers you can have - typically 3 or 4 - more than that and the weight becomes excessive).

If your home is in need of a new roof regardless its probably best to get one now. More than likely is the flashing...since water is susceptable to leaking there on many roofs no matter the type. In florida its all the rage to go metal on your roof. longer lifespan, little to no maintenance and can withstand up to 150mph. My husband does metal roof installations and although it can get costly as opposed to other roof coverings its probably the cheapest in the long run. Good luck. Flashing can probably be replaced easily enough without have to install new roof. Call a roofing co...to see if they can come out and give free estimates. If your in Florida and need a hole new roof call me!! Hahahaha...I will make hubby do it affordable for ya!
