Custom Deck Ideas

I built my own deck! And not just one, but two so far. And I'm sure if I'm asked - I'll even do more. I had such a blast doing this. This was my FIRST construction project (after building birdhouses that is). I literally did this 10 years ago from an old Time-Life book for the basics. I learned all about a ledger board, footings and cutting compound angles. Wow, what a learning project. I couldn't wait to get home from work to start working on my deck every day. But rather than a basic railing (because I hardly ever do basic), I designed sunbursts out of copper tubing and wood.

Show me any decks you've built or designed or whatever. I'd love to see!

I would love to take on a project like this! I am not super experienced with saws, but you gotta start somewhere. Do you have any recommendations on how to read up on this and get started??

Building a deck is something that I would like to do also. I currently have a small one on the back of my house but I would like a larger one where I can actually have friends over and grill or just sit and enjoy a few glasses of wine. My current deck is way too small for that. Is there any place where I can find instructions about how to do this?

You might try the local home improvement store for a selection of books on the topic. Or try your local bookstore. I'm not sure about online sites. Maybe the material suppliers would have something, they are always shipping us brochures about their products and including them in the lumber drops. Luck, Gerald
