What type of tile is allowed as surround for a gas fireplace (on the metal frame too)

I removed a mantle and old marble surround that was layered around my gas fireplace. I want to put tile as surround-- especially glass mosaic tile. But I had a gas fireplace specialist come by to inspect my fireplace for other reasons... he mentioned that you cannot use bathroom tiles on as surround because of the metal of the fireplace is too hot for it.

Can anyone give me feedback on what type of tiles I can use as a surround on the wall and the fireplace "frame"? Where can I get reasonable deals for tiles?

Thanks,
Supergirl
