Stupid (a.k.a. Becky)
Please advise me how to "pick" a lock on a bedroom door that only locks from the inside....the outside has a small hole on the side of the knob.
I know you've heard it many times in school, but there is no such thing as a stupid question! This has happened to the best of us. While this may be one of the easier issues to handle it may just make you ready to try out some of the harder stuff. Take it from us, this stuff is addicting! Being there are two possible locking methods, there are also two different ways to handle your locked door.
- If your door has a push-in locking system, then what you'll need is a piece of straightened hangar wire. Insert the wire through the little hole on the outside. Once you feel the wire hit the other side, give it a little push and it should pop the lock right out. Open sesame!
- On the other hand if the lock has a turn locking method it's a little different, but don't worry. (In case you're wondering, this is one of those that you have to turn the lock horizontal or vertical to lock and unlock it.) Most of these door knobs come with a small key that fits through the hole on the outside. Even though it is called a key, it's more like a flathead screwdriver, though a very small one at that. Insert the key just as we explained above and jiggle it around to fit in the notch on the other side. Once it catches then turn it to unlock your door.
